Arthur Hapgood Elementary School
Welcome
December 5, 2008

Thank you to all the families for supporting your student's education.  You really make a difference in your child's life!

We have important information to share with you about our school.

The After School Program has begun!  This program will be held Monday-Thursday from 2:35 to 3:35 p.m.  There will be no After School Program on minimum days.  If you have any questions regarding our After School Program, please contact Julie Kozel at 742-2200.

We had our first fundraiser on Wednesday, November 5th.  Items will be delivered before winter break.

PTA invites you to join us to make a difference in the education for all children. PTA sponsors programs such as: field trips, reading programs, educational assemblies, classroom enrichment materials, Drug Awareness Programs and Family NIghts.  The membership is only $6.   Thank you for supporting your students in such visible ways.

If your student was not able to complete his/her homework, please advise him/her to stop by the Homework Center for assistance.  Tuesday-Friday 7:40-8:05 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Another important reminder to all parents.  If you are planning to be out of town during our winter vacation, and if your student is going to be missing more days, please remember to fill out an Independent Study Request Form at least one week in advance.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Carol Pace

Please call the school on the first day and each day thereafter if your child will not be attending.  We have an answering machine if you would like to call before or after school hours.  When leaving a message please leave your child's name, classroom number or teacher's name, reason for absence, and who is reporting the absence. 742-2150
Visitors to our School
December 5, 2008
For the safety of our children, we are asking that all visitors (parents, grandparents, helpers, anyone) come to the office to sign in and get a visitor's pass, before going anywhere on campus.
School Uniforms
December 5, 2008

For the last three years more and more of our students have chosen not to wear school uniforms.  If children and families decide not to wear the uniforms, there is nothing the school can do to make them wear the uniform.  The right to sign a waiver is granted to each family choosing not to wear uniforms.  The only way our school can remain a school that requires uniforms is for the parents to enforce this decision at home and encourage other parents to do the same.

We need to decide if we want to remain a school that wears uniforms or if the desire to have our children wear uniforms has passed.  I plan to send out a survey before the winter holiday to see what your opinion is now about uniforms.  If you have a strong opinion either way and would like to serve on a committee that examines this issue, please contact me at 742-2200.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pace
