About this School
Vision Statement

Hapgood is a community of respectful, responsible, and successful learners.

We strive to implement a school-wide system of positive behavior management that promotes responsible student engagement, increases time on task, and ensures successful learning for all students.

Curriculum and Programs

Hapgood will provide every student with instruction with these characteristics:

  • ·       Consistent use of systematic, research based instructional strategies/practices using California State of Education (SBE) – adopted core curriculums.
  • ·       Emphasis on building student healthy self-concept, individual accountability, cultural pride, academic success, and community identity.
  • ·       Expanded learning opportunities to include English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and Social Studies.

 

Enrollment and Community

Hapgood is located in Northern Santa Barbara County in a rural community 150 miles northwest of Los Angeles with a population of approximately 48,000.  The school served 502 students in the 2006-2007 school year.  Our current enrollment is 413 students.  Hapgood student  population is 80% Hispanic, 12% Caucasian, 2% Asian, 4% African American, and 1% Filipino.  Approximately 57% of the students served at Hapgood are English Learners (EL), and 76% are socioeconomically disadvantaged (SED).
